(From The Evanston Review March 15, 1928) "The $450,000 Michigan-Lee apartment building which is under process of construction will be completed and ready for occupancy May 1. The building, which is being erected by N.J Lareau and associates, occupies about half of the 20,000 square foot lot on the southwest corner of Michigan and Lee. The remaining half of the lot is used for the spacious lawn, court and circular driveway. Georgian Colonial is the style of architecture for the new structure which is made of red brick and Bedford stone. White stone columns are placed at the entrance. Special features of the apartment include a ball room and children’s play room in the English basement. Provision has also been made for the baby carriage rooms. The structure houses 24 apartments: three 7-room, three 6-room, fifteen 5-room, and three 4-room apartments. The large living rooms, averaging 14 by 20 feet are equipped with wood burning fireplaces. The bedrooms through the entire building are unusually large, averaging 13 by 15 feet. Large wardrobes and ample closets are also found in the apartments. The dining rooms, which also average 13 by 15 feet, are adequately large. The kitchens, equipped with battleship linoleum, large porcelain finished gas ranges, double apron sinks and electric refrigeration operated from a central plan, are especially large, averaging 14 by 10." |
